Are you a pack rat? Are you closets spilling over with unnecessary objects? Is your home slowly but surely driving you crazy? Then it might be time to declutter your home!
Besides allowing your home to look amazing, there are several benefits to decluttering your space. Clutter brings a lot of visual distraction and undue stress in our lives. When we declutter, we become more efficient and focus more easily. We can also save more time and money in the long run, and you’ll be more at peace when you see more space instead of junk piling up into a mountain of unnecessary want.
Not sure how where to begin? Consider the following tips to help you revitalize your space:
Visualize The Possibilities – Think of how you would like your home to look. What to you envision? Write down what it looks like or make a sketch of how you would like certain rooms in your home (or all of them) to look. This will help you know what you need to do to make this a reality.
Consider a New Paintjob – If your current wall colors are too dark, too bright, or utilize more than one or two colors, you might want to consider trying new paint. Shoot for something more muted to let your space look large and less distracting. Consider sage, gray, or other earthy tones when selecting a simpler paint color.
Pare Down Your Furniture – If your space feels jam-packed with furniture, you know it’s time to cut back the amount of pieces you have. Fill the space with only the things you need and take out the rest. Think your living room will look better without a coffee table? Take it out! Don’t need that desk in your bedroom? Bid it adieu ! Remember, less is more when it comes to furniture and a simpler interior design.
Eliminate the Clutter – Once you have everything in place, it’s time to take out the clutter – for good. Eliminate all of the excess junk that’s lying around in the space. Ask yourself if you really need the item or if it can be used elsewhere. Feel free, however, to allow a few decorative pieces to provide interest and pops of color in your space.
Remember, when decluttering it’s essential to keep only the things that you need or really love and get rid of the rest. You can either rededicate a piece to another room or get rid of it all together.
